A diverse selection of jurors, featuring a mix of creatives, designers, marketers, business people, entrepreneurs, journalists and thought leaders, will be looking to award D&AD Pencils based on three criteria: an original and innovative idea at its core, clear and measurable impact in its chosen category area and relevance to the business's commercial needs.
The 2017 Impact Awards Jury includes leaders from BlackRock to Snapchat, from The Girl Scouts of America to P&G, from Post Secret to Wieden + Kennedy. The range and variety of Judges is indicative of the campaign Impact aims to create, crossing all industries and meeting in the middle where they have a set of shared beliefs: belief in the need for businesses to have purpose beyond profit; belief in the power of creativity to create change and be a force for good; belief in the crucial role of brands and business in creating a better, fairer more sustainable world.
Ideas that improve the way people learn or enable learning opportunities. This includes supporting equal access to quality education by reducing gender, race, and income disparities.
This could be enhancing learning both inside and outside of the classroom; making learning resources more accessible; developing new resources or platforms. Projects might encourage the creation of better learning environments (real or virtual); innovate within an existing organisation or service or develop support networks and intuitive technology for teachers as well as students.

Debbie Sterling is the Founder and CEO of GoldieBlox, the award-winning children’s multimedia company disrupting the pink aisle in toy stores globally and challenging gender stereotypes with the world’s first girl engineer character. Debbie is an engineer, entrepreneur, and one of the leaders in the movement toward empowering girls to build their confidence, dreams and ultimately, their futures. She was named TIME’s "Person of the Moment,” honored by the National Retail Foundation as one of 25 “People Shaping Retail’s Future,” and was recently added to Fortune Magazine’s prestigious “40 Under 40” list. In 2015, Debbie was inducted as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship and honored by the National Women’s History Museum with a “Living Legacy” Award for her work to empower girls around the world. Debbie received her degree in Engineering at Stanford University in 2005.
Dubbed the 'Willy Wonka of Design and Science', award-winning Director and Designer of Experiences Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun is a critical explorer and a fearless and passionate provocateur. In 2014 Wired magazine awarded her with a WIRED Innovation Fellowship for her work to date and its 'significant impact on the world' whilst in 2013, Icon Magazine touted Ben Hayoun as one of the 50 international designers 'shaping the future'. Additionally, in 2015, she was nominated for a Women of the Year Achievement Award which rewards, since 1955, women 'who have made a significant achievement' and 'are being recognised for their strides in making the world a better place'. Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun is Designer of Experiences at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute, Chief of Experiences at WeTransfer where she develops experiential content for the digital platform and its 90 millions active users and work on WeTransfer educative mission in USA, a member of the Space Outreach and Education committee at the International Astronautical Federation, a United Nations Advisor to the UN VR (Virtual Reality) labs, an advisory board member at AIGA (American Institute for Graphic Arts) in Los Angeles, and a visiting professor at the Royal College of Arts and the Architectural Association. Dr. Nelly assembled and directs the International Space Orchestra (ISO) – the world first orchestra of space scientists and astronauts from NASA and through this has collaborated with Grammy award-winning musicians such as Beck, Damon Albarn, Bobby Womack, The Prodigy, Penguin Café, Ed Banger Records, Savages and most recently Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós.
In 2017, Ben Hayoun has launched the University of the Underground the world's first postgraduate university based in the underground of the urban spaces, composed of dreamers of the day supporting unconventional research practices.
Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun received her MA with distinction from the Royal College of Arts in Design Interactions, and she is finalising her PhD in Human Geography and political philosophy from Royal Holloway, University of London. In 2016, she was awarded with Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London Teaching award. This award is student-led and provides the opportunity for students to offer feedback to those staff that have made a positive and significant difference to their learning journey.
